Andy D. Clarke
Executive Director
Andy Clarke was appointed to the position of Executive Director in April of 2004 after successfully leading efforts to create, interpret and implement the various transportation programs that are available to improve conditions for bicycling and walking as the League’s State and Local Advocacy Director. Before joining the League in February 2003, Clarke was on contract to provide technical assistance to the highly regarded Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center on site at the Federal Highway Administration. In addition to his strong policy background, Clarke has managed a range of bicycle and pedestrian planning projects at the state and metropolitan levels and has worked extensively with state and local advocacy groups. Clarke is a 1984 graduate of the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom with an undergraduate degree in Law. He is on the Board of Directors for America Bikes, and a member of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycling Professionals.

Matt Banks
Membership Director
Mr. Banks joined the League as Membership Director in July 2008. He has 10 years of experience working with membership organizations, working in membership, marketing, and database management. Most recently, he served as Membership Manager for the National Brownfield Associations, an organization dedicated to cleaning up contaminated properties and returning them to productive reuse. He is a graduate of George Mason University, with a B.A. in history. Banks became addicted to bicycling while living in Chicago, and now bikes to work from Alexandria, VA.

Alison Dewey
Program Specialist,
Bicycle Friendly Communities
Ms. Dewey joined the League in March 2008. For four years prior to that, Dewey worked for Massachusetts-based Landry’s Bicycles. She spent two years managing a store and two years as Marketing Coordinator. She also served three years on the board of the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition. Dewey has a MA in International Relations and Communications from Boston University and is a graduate of St. Olaf College. She spent three years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, where her bicycle was her primary mode of transportation. She enjoys training for triathlons with her family and commutes to work by bike.

Walter P. Finch
Advocacy Director
Mr. Finch joined the League in May 2006, and has more than 18 years of experience in the transportation industry. He most recently worked as a government relations associate with G.S. Proctor & Associates, focusing on appropriations and regulatory practice. Before that he served as the chief of staff for a member of Maryland’s House of Delegates. From 1997-2001 he worked at the U.S. Department of Transportation as the Special Assistant, Office of the Secretary, Office of Intermodalism.

Lorna Green
Director of Operations
Ms. Green joined the League in April 2007. With more than 30 years of accounting experience, Lorna has worked for a variety of for-profit and non-profits organizations. As the mother of two grown sons, she's working right now to incorporate bicycling into her exercise routine.

Elizabeth P. Kiker
Vice President
Ms. Kiker joined the League of American Bicyclists in May 2005 as the Director of Communications and was promoted to Vice President in October 2008. In this position, she is the editor of the League's magazine, and responsible for all of its member communications. Kiker has 10 years of experience in association marketing and communications, and is an avid bicycle commuter. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University.

Bill Nesper
Director, Bicycle Friendly Community Program
In 2007, Bill Nesper became the Director of the League's Bicycle Friendly Community Program. For two years prior to that, Nesper managed the League's educational programs as well as the Bicycle Friendly Community Program. He first joined the League as a Membership Assistant in 2002. Before joining the League, he was a touring musician and artist manager for seven years. He has a BA in History from the University of Florida and is working on a MA at George Mason University. Nesper rides his bike eight miles to work and is a member of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association.

Jeff Peel
Program Specialist,
Bicycle Friendly Communities
Mr. Peel joined the League in March 2008. He has a wealth of experience in cycling encouragement and education through his previous work as SmartBike DC Project Manager, Program Manager at Washington Area Bicyclist Association, bicycle retail management and his years of volunteering with various community bike programs. Peel has a BA in American Studies from the University of Southern Mississippi and is working on his Masters in Urban and Regional Planning at Virginia Tech. He loves bike commuting, and annually logs thousands of miles.

Sharon Thorne
Administrative Assistant
Ms. Thorne joined the League in June 2008. She has more than 20 years of experience working at nonprofit organizations, with specialization in database management and customer service. While she hasn't been biking in a few years, she is looking forward to getting back on two wheels soon.

W. Preston Tyree
Director of Education
Tyree joined the League as director of education in September 2007. He has more than 20 years of experience working with transportation issues, and has spent most of his time on bicycle safety for the last 11 years. He will be responsible for the League’s education program, including Road I, Road II, Kids I, Kids II, Commuter and the League Cycling Instructor Program. Tyree joins the League with a wealth of League-specific experience. He is a League life member, and has been a member of the board and chair of the education committee since 2004. He won the National Education Award from the League in 2002 and has been a League Cycling Instructor since 1996. He is certified to lead workshops on National Safe Routes to School, Bicycle Friendly Communities and Complete Streets.
